Traffic Court Records in Monroe County
Monroe County Court carries the countywide traffic docket. Traffic and misdemeanor criminal cases anywhere in county territory land there. Its traffic file is the record of what has happened with a citation. CaseLook is the public computer search for that court record. For a live question or an official copy, County Court is the direct route. Woodsfield Mayor's Court is the one narrow exception. It takes local ordinance and eligible traffic matters, and it shows as active in the state registry. No statutory municipal court exists in Monroe County. Beallsville, Clarington, Lewisville, and Jerusalem have no active registered mayor's court either. So read the court printed on the ticket. Never assume a village runs its own court.
Monroe County Traffic Court Route
County Court sits in Room 12 at 101 N. Main Street in Woodsfield. It is reachable at 740-472-5181. Route any County Court citation there to confirm a date or ask about the record. On CaseLook, the lower-court search option is the vendor-labeled Municipal Court checkbox. The court's official county name is Monroe County Court. One more distinction matters. County Court is a court of record; Woodsfield Mayor's Court is not. That shapes where a local traffic file lives and how a mayor-court appeal proceeds.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Pull the citation number, court name, and appearance date off the ticket first. CaseLook accepts a Ticket Number, a name, a Case Number with digits only, or a Hearing Date. Unsure which court holds the case? Leave both default court boxes checked. The Calendar Search tab offers another way in. CaseLook postings can run at least 24 hours behind, so confirm any current date by phone.
- Read the citation for its number, issuing court, and appearance date.
- Search CaseLook by Ticket Number, name, numeric case number, or Hearing Date.
- Call County Court at 740-472-5181 for a County Court case, or Woodsfield Mayor's Court at 740-472-0418 for a Woodsfield mayor-court citation.
- Use the County Court payment lookup only if the court identifies the citation as eligible.
Monroe County Traffic Ticket Fields
CaseLook leaves the Ticket Number field optional and allows up to 32 characters. The payment lookup is a different animal: an eligibility and payment-start screen rather than a docket viewer. Its first screen asks for a Last Name of up to 20 characters. An optional First Name is capped at 15. It does not replace the citation, court-date, or CaseLook search route. Those remain the way to read a Monroe County court docket.
| Lookup channel | Field | Requirement or format |
|---|---|---|
| CaseLook | Ticket Number | Optional text; maximum 32. |
| CaseLook | Case Number | Optional numeric entry; maximum 12 and no letters. |
| CaseLook | Name/Company | Optional; maximum 30, last first middle format. |
| County payment lookup | Last Name | Required; maximum 20. |
| County payment lookup | First Name | Optional; maximum 15. |
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
Begin with the date printed on the citation. CaseLook can be searched by Hearing Date. But the County Court record deserves a phone call too, since the local notice warns that postings lag. The payment screen is no substitute for the court calendar. For a Woodsfield Mayor's Court citation, call that mayor's court directly, not County Court.
| Citation number | Use the number printed on the ticket; CaseLook accepts a Ticket Number up to 32 characters. |
|---|---|
| Case number | Use a digits-only CaseLook entry, up to 12 characters, such as 123456789012. |
| Court | Read the citation. County Court is the normal countywide route; Woodsfield Mayor's Court is narrow exception. |
| Appearance date | Confirm with the court because CaseLook can lag at least 24 hours. |
| Hearing detail | No local Calendar Search result fields were verified during research. |
Monroe County Traffic Date Check
County Court's traffic guidance lays out the plea sequence plainly. Plead guilty or no contest and sentencing follows at once, with fine and costs. Plead not guilty and the case is set for trial. That rule says nothing about any CaseLook setting code or where a case stands today. If a date might have moved, check the citation against direct court confirmation. Note: An old or absent CaseLook date is not proof that a traffic hearing was cancelled, completed, or changed to another event.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Only eligible citations can be paid online through County Court. Pay online and you have pleaded guilty, waiving appearance and trial. Get it in by the due date and time on the ticket. The system takes no partial online payments. A not-guilty answer instead follows the County Court path. That path leads to a trial setting.
| Eligible online payment | Not-guilty response |
|---|---|
| Creates a guilty plea and appearance/trial waiver. | County Court states that a not-guilty plea is set for trial. |
| Must be made by the ticket due date and time. | Use the court named on the citation for the current date and response process. |
| No partial online payment is accepted. | The online payment screen is not the route for a partial payment. |
Past-due warning: County Court says tickets 30 days past due are turned in for license suspension unless the person appears on the arraignment date and makes other arrangements. Call the court for the current status of the citation.
Monroe County Traffic Payment Waiver
The County Court payment lookup opens with a name-based eligibility search, and eligibility is not automatic. The county lists its payment exclusions and must-appear examples on that official page: OVI, leaving the scene, driving under suspension or revocation, no operator license in stated circumstances, school-bus passing, fleeing or eluding, drag racing, certain plate violations, reckless operation, extreme speed, and other listed exclusions. The assigned payment-start screen then shows the separate name fields.

The screen is an eligibility and payment entry point, not a complete traffic-court docket.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two records, two keepers. The court traffic record is the citation case file held by the County Court judge, mayor, or clerk. It tracks the court process. The Ohio BMV keeps a separate abstract and history record. A court lookup and a BMV request run through different custodians and different access routes.
| Court traffic record | BMV record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | County Court judge, mayor, or clerk for the court case. | Ohio BMV. |
| Focus | Citation, court process, plea, and court disposition. | Separate abstract or history record held by the state agency. |
| Access route | CaseLook lead or direct court request. | Ohio BMV record-request route. |
Monroe County Traffic Court Exception
Woodsfield Mayor's Court is the exception to the County Court traffic route in Monroe County. The state registry lists it as active for local ordinance and eligible traffic matters. The citation itself decides whether that narrow route applies. Don't assume a Woodsfield case sits on the County Court docket. Don't assume a County Court case belongs to the mayor's court either. The official Woodsfield Mayor's Court registry card shows the registry's listing for the court.

The registry identifies the recognized mayor-court exception without creating one for other Monroe villages.
Fees and Copies
County Court's certified-copy fee is posted at $1 per page, though that page carries an effective date of October 16, 2009. Confirm the price before you request anything. The county's traffic cost page also lists dated figures. County Court posts no current general traffic copy price and no new traffic fine schedule, so the court itself is the only source for what a copy costs today.
| Traffic amount or channel | Published information | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| County Court certified copy | $1 per page | 2009 effective date; confirm. |
| State Highway Patrol schedule | Starts at $97 for 1-5 mph over | Dated county table; confirm actual amount. |
| Sheriff schedule | Starts at $102 for 1-5 mph over | Dated county table; confirm actual amount. |
| Posted criminal/traffic costs | $67 non-moving / $77 moving plus sheriff amount | 2009 fee page; not a current representation. |
Monroe County Traffic Cost Dates
Old figures do not tell you what you owe. Treat the published schedules from County Court as historic local references only. The amount due is a fact to get from the court. The same goes for the due date. Your eligibility and the proper response are also facts to get from the court for the citation in hand.
County Court does offer a Pay or Appear Agreement. It can buy extra time where it is allowed. Miss the terms and the court warns your license can be suspended. Ask the court directly whether the agreement covers your specific eligible matter.
Monroe County Traffic Record Transfer
Under R.C. 4510.03, the court-side traffic record sits with the County Court judge, mayor, or clerk. The statute also orders a certified abstract of conviction or bail forfeiture sent to BMV within seven days. That statutory handoff matters. It is why the court file and the BMV file stay two separate records. The official code section spells out this transfer and what each office holds.

The statute provides the court-to-BMV record rule without replacing either custodian's separate request route.
Monroe County Traffic Payment Update
County Court cautions that an online payment update can take 24 hours. So a payment search is not a dependable instant view of the full court case. Hold onto your payment confirmation. Then call County Court when you need a current record or date verified.
The card-payment vendor the court uses is an official payment channel. It is not a public docket viewer. Paying a ticket and looking up a court record are two different services. Confusing them leads people to think a matter is resolved when no entry proves it.
The County Court rules add that partial payment is not accepted online. Where the court allows it, a Pay or Appear Agreement can grant extra time. The county warns that missing that agreement can cost you your license. It is a court process, distinct from the online payment screen. It also does not apply to every citation.
Facing a citation with an upcoming date? Call the court to learn whether an online update is still pending. The court can also say whether you must appear. A record held by Woodsfield Mayor's Court takes its own direct contact. The state mayor-court registry can identify that court. But it gives no payment status and no citation record.
Monroe County Traffic Court Registry
The statewide Mayor's Court registry search helps you confirm whether a mayor's court is active. Remember what it is: a registry, not a citation search and not a local court calendar. Woodsfield is the one active local exception on it; the other listed Monroe villages show no active mayor's court.

Use the state registry to pin down the right court before any citation search begins. The separate Ohio BMV record page lays out the state agency's own route to its records.

It also underscores a split. The Monroe County court case file is one thing. The BMV keeps a separate record system of its own.
Every Monroe County traffic matter starts with the court printed on the citation. County Court keeps the docket for its countywide cases. For a docket search online, Monroe County CaseLook is the lead. Court staff will confirm dates and records by phone. A Woodsfield citation runs through that separate local court instead. Payment questions, copy requests, ticket searches, and court dates all go back to one place. That place is whichever Monroe County court actually holds the case.
